Backup software should earn trust through restore evidence. Use this checklist before depending on VaultPilot for scheduled protection.
Step 1
Start in a test environment
Use a VM, lab server, or non-production Linux system first. Do not begin with production-only data.
Step 2
Create a small backup set
Choose a small directory with files you can safely inspect and compare after restore.
Step 3
Run a manual backup
Confirm VaultPilot creates an encrypted archive and records the backup outcome in the dashboard.
Step 4
Run restore verification
Use restore testing before trusting scheduled protection. Confirm the restored files match what you expected.
Step 5
Inspect evidence
Review backup history, restore-test history, failures, timestamps, and retained records.
Step 6
Test failure behavior
Try a controlled failure, such as an unavailable source path, and confirm the dashboard records the failure clearly.
Step 7
Check retention safely
Use retention dry-run behavior before pruning. Confirm what would be removed before relying on cleanup automation.
